Park and Rec Commission
April 4, 2013
Members: Robert Dunn, Chairman, John Flower, Roger Zito, Timothy Gavin, Glynn McAraw, and Donald Bugbee, Director. Absent Mary Ellen Garbarino, Missy Garvin.
Meeting started at 7:30 pm.
Correction to the March minutes is as follows: Last sentence in the minutes “Selectwoman Nosal mentioned the need for liability insurance by sport clubs, etc.”
It was explained the sports clubs know they cannot play on any OL fields until a COI
is received. The TOL in turn provides at the beginning of the fiscal year, a COI to the Regional School District #18 for use of their buildings, and/or fields, i.e P & R programs, auditorium for town meetings, etc. With this explanation, a motion made by Tim Gavin seconded by John Flower was made to accept the minutes as corrected . Voted was unanimous.
Programs: Basketball program ended on March 2nd.
Wednesday, Adult Basketball ongoing thru June 5th.
Sunday Adult Basketball ongoing thru April 14th
Yoga….5th session starts April 10th thru May 29th.
Summer Programs
Summer staff 90% re-hired
There will be offered: Baseball camp (2) Tennis camps
Softball camp Soccer camp
(2) Basketball camps Day camp ( at high school)
Budget: Budget, as presented approved by Board of Finance. Goes to vote by townspeople in May.
Capital Items : repairs to tennis courts- Cross Lane
Resurface of tennis courts – scheduled for yr 15/16.
“ of basketball courts – scheduled for yr 14/15.
Gazebo at White Sand Beach scheduled for replacement yr 14/15
Will be installing concrete barriers in the parking lot at WSB.
Will buy 2 more pair of soccer goals for TWP yr. 16/17.
To buy Lacrosse goals.
Building Maintenance
Safety Committee: Meetings scheduled quarterly…March, June 4th,Sept 10th
Facilites Committee: no schedule published
Con Trek: a group on a 100 mi fund raiser hike thru the state will be in Old Lyme
on June 26th. They will stay overnite at Town Woods Park.
Lacrosse Teams are forming now
New Business: Discussed changing the start time of the Park and Rec Commission
meetings. Times suggested were 6:00 pm or 6:30 pm. No vote taken. Postponed until the May meeting so that the absent members could be made aware this proposed change.
Park and Rec Vice Chairman: Voted to appoint John Flower as Vice-Chairman of the Park and Recreation Commission. Motion made by Roger Zito, seconded by Tim Gavin.
